IPL’s top five longest sixes in the history
In this article, we will covered IPL’s top five longest sixes in the history. In the 15th game of the competition, Faf du Plessis, the skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), hit the longest six of the IPL 2023 season so far against Lucknow Super Giants.
The longest six of the year was hit by Du Plessis against LSG spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who was hit for a 115-meter six that flew miles over mid-wicket and out of the stadium. He beat Shivam Dube of CSK’s all-round team’s 102-meter strike for the longest six of the 2023 IPL.
The 10th-longest six in IPL history, the South African’s 115-meter shot matched that of his former CSK captain MS Dhoni. The top five are shown here.
IPL’s top five longest sixes in the history
#1 Albie Morkel (125m)
Albie Morkel crushed left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha for a 125-meter six in an IPL 2008 match for Chennai Super Kings against the now-defunct Deccan Chargers.
Even after 15 seasons in the lucrative league, Morkel’s fierce blow is still the most popular.
The South African dropped on one knee and hit the ball over mid-wicket as it left Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium.
#2 Praveen Kumar (124m)
In the 2008 IPL match against Rajasthan Royals, RCB was reduced to 78 for six, and Praveen Kumar was moved up the order to bat in a pinch-hitting capacity. The Indian speedster scored 34 runs in 30 balls by smashing two fours and three sixes.
Part-time Royals player Yusuf Pathan was struck by Praveen Kumar for a huge six that travelled 124 metres. He slammed it over the long-on boundary with such force that it narrowly missed the ceiling.
Later, during his outstanding batting cameo against spin magician Shane Warne, Praveen hammered a string of sixes.
#3 Adam Gilchrist (122m)
During an IPL encounter against RCB in the 2011 season, the former captain of Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) struck a 122-meter six.
With the aid of eight boundaries and nine sixes, Gilchrist scored 106 runs off 55 balls in Dharamshala, batting at a strike rate of 192.72.
Charl Langeveldt, a fast bowler for the RCB, recorded the largest maximum that day. Gilchrist despatched the South African’s attempted slower ball out of Dharamshala for a 122-meter six, giving the ball the treatment. Gilchrist hit three consecutive sixes off Langeveldt.
#4 Robin Uthappa (120m)
Over his time with the RCB, Robin Uthappa accomplished the accomplishment. In the 2010 IPL against the Mumbai Indians, Uthappa earned 23 points off of 15 balls while chasing 152.
In the 13th over of the RCB innings, Uthappa crushed Dwayne Bravo for a massive six (120 metres). A full-length delivery from Bravo was thwacked miles over wide long-on by Uthappa as the ball soared directly over the concrete roof of the Brabourne Stadium.
#5 Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh & Ross Taylor (119m)
On the list of the longest sixes in IPL history, three players are tied for fifth place. They are all well-known figures in white-ball cricket who followed bowlers around when they were on the pitch.
In the 2008 IPL season’s opening match, Ross Taylor smacked a 119-meter six. Taylor hit a massive six against fellow countryman Jacob Oram while batting for RCB against CSK.
The following year, with CSK pacer Albie Morkel on the receiving end, Yuvraj Singh replicated the feat.
With a 119-meter shot in 2013, Chris Gayle joined Ross Taylor, Yuvraj Singh, and others. In his aggressive 175* against the Pune Warriors, he struck left-arm spinner Ali Mortaza.
