WPL 2023, Amelia Kerr of the Mumbai Indians speaks out about her struggles with mental health
In the event that I weren’t a cricketer, I would have been a mental health educator. Because of the struggles my family, friends, and I have experienced with mental illness, I am incredibly passionate about mental health. Occasionally, you have to remember that they are people first and not just objects. Ultimately, we are all just people, Amelia added.
“My family and Sophie Devine have been fantastic throughout my career,” she continued, thanking Sophie Devine for her unwavering support. In both cricket and life, I couldn’t be where I am without my family. They are all my role models in life and the most amazing people. I’d never be able to repay them for the assistance they’ve given me throughout my life and profession.
What distinguishes athletes like Devine, Sarah Taylor, Ben Stokes, Glenn Maxwell, and Jonathan Trott from their contemporaries is this courageous step towards treating mental health concerns. Their legacy goes beyond only their on-field accomplishments; it also includes the battles they waged, the lives they impacted, and the taboos they broke by being honest about their issues with mental illness.
Amelia is now recognised for her efforts to make the game easier and more accessible to young girls as well as her skill on the field.
