WPL 2023, Who will win today’s WPL 2023 Final match between DC and MI?
The Mumbai Indians (MI) made things more tough than necessary, but they’re in the final of the 2023 Women’s Premier League (WPL). Harmanpreet Kaur and company face the league’s table-toppers, the Delhi Capitals (DC), in the championship game on Sunday, March 26 at the Brabourne Stadium.
WPL 2023, Who will win today’s WPL 2023 Final match between DC and MI?
MI were on track to finish first in the rankings and get straight passage into the final with five wins in a row. A couple of hitches allowed DC to overtake them at the top, but Mumbai shrugged it off by thrashing the UP Warriorz (UPW) by 72 runs in the Eliminator on Friday.
The teams met twice during the round-robin stage, and the outcomes of the meetings were different in nature but similar in their one-sidedness.
In the DY Patil Stadium, MI defeated DC by eight wickets while chasing 106 runs in WPL Match 7 in 2023. Saika Ishaque’s three-wicket haul earned her Player of the Match honours, but Hayley Matthews also contributed greatly on all fronts.
At the same location, DC exacted retribution in Match 18. Mumbai was held to a disappointing total this time (109/8), and the Capitals reduced it with nine wickets and as many as 11 overs to spare. With Marizanne Kapp standing out for an efficient spell, the victory was also crucial in determining the top two positions.
It is fairly clear that DC and MI have been the two strongest teams in the competition, and they will rightly face off in the championship game. Although they haven’t faced off against one another at Brabourne Stadium yet, their leaders will be extremely familiar with one another.
WPL 2023, DC vs MI: Is it possible for well-rested Delhi to derail the Mumbai train?
Meg Lanning and Harmanpreet Kaur can’t seem to stay away from one other in major competitions. The two experienced captains will square off for the third time this WPL season, with more at stake than ever before.
Nat Sciver-Brunt was the linchpin of Michigan’s batting in the Eliminator, scoring an undefeated 72 that was as smooth as they come. The English all-rounder is notorious for raising her game under pressure, and if she delivers on Sunday, DC may have to say goodbye to their trophy chances.
Sciver-Brunt may not catch you, but Amelia Kerr or Hayley Matthews most certainly will. The tournament MVP for MI, Matthews, has suddenly lost some of his steam. Yet Harmanpreet and company have still managed to breeze into the championship game without her efforts.
On the other hand, DC’s production is mostly dependent on their initial cooperation. Meg Lanning has been quite reliable at the top, while Shafali Verma has occasionally played beautiful innings. Mumbai, unfortunately, might have the bowling capabilities to stop the pair.
Shafali is notorious for being vulnerable to the short ball, although she has been able to somewhat overcome it by using a variety of heaves across the line as she retreats. But, this tactic can only be effective for a limited period of time, and the in-form Issy Wong would relish the challenge of facing the destructive DC opener.
Despite Alice Capsey’s fireworks, this year’s DC middle order hasn’t been at its best. The Capitals might never be in the game if the foreign three of Capsey, Lanning, and Kapp performs well at the plate. In contrast, the batters behind Matthews and Yastika Bhatia are a little more dependable even if they don’t give MI a terrific start.
MI will benefit from home assistance. Four of their bowlers are among the top five wicket-takers in the competition, while several important hitters are hitting the ball well. Contrarily, DC has counted on particular match-ups to go their way this season.
In a knockout game, anything can happen, especially if scoreboard pressure is present. But, Mumbai proved in the WPL 2023 Eliminator that they are a squad that is not easily intimidated by the scenario and that they are also unquestionably the superior team on paper.
DC is definitely in with a chance, but MI are the front-runners to win the first WPL title.
